A failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a procedure in operations management for analysis of potential failure modes within a system for classification by severity or determination of the effect of failures on the system. Failure modes are any errors or defects in a process, design, or item, especially those that affect the customer, and can be potential or actual. Effects analysis refers to studying the consequences of those failures.

Gauge R&R (Gauge Reproducibility & Repeatability) is a Measurement Systems Analysis technique which uses analysis of variance to assess a measurement system.
There are two important aspects on a Gauge R&R:
Repeatability: Repeatability is the variation in measurements taken by a single person or instrument on the same item and under the same conditions.
Reproducibility: the variability induced by the operators. It is the variation induced when different operators (or different laboratories) measure the same part.

It is a Quality management tool to identify and monitor the activity required to control the critical inputs or key outputs for a process so the process will continually meet its product or service goals. Control plans are monitored by OPTIMAS' Quality Assurance department using inspection procedures. Control charts are used in a control plan to monitor items.
